At Allegacy Federal Credit Union, we believe in doing the right thing for your wellbeing and that includes our members, teammates and community. Doing right moments not only happen when we go above and beyond for a member, but also in our everyday lives.
Our teammates volunteer over 6000 hours a year at organizations such as Cancer Services, Inc., The Forsyth Humane Society, Second Harvest Foodbank, The Center for Smart Financial Choices, The Family House, their children’s schools and others. As an organization, we focus our philanthropic efforts on the arts, food insecurity, education and wellness.
Volunteering not only helps our community, it’s also a great way to build skills in teamwork, problem-solving and networking. Even if you can only spare a couple of hours a month, there are many organizations that need your help. Hands-on Northwest North Carolina is a local non-profit dedicated to connecting people to volunteer opportunities in the area. The key is to find an organization that you’re passionate about so you’ll be more apt to spread the news about the great things the organization does even when you aren’t volunteering.
While most of us can’t volunteer every day, we can do right every day through random acts of kindness. One way is by paying for the person behind you at a drive-thru or toll booth. This one act typically brings a reciprocal effect because many people pay it forward and pay for the person behind them as well. Acts of kindness don’t need to involve money. Helping someone put their groceries in the car, offering to take a photo for a group on vacation or even just a friendly compliment can go a long ways. Looking for inspiration? Check out the Random Acts of Kindness Foundation or our own Random Acts of Kindness Generator for free resources and ideas.
Whether you’re doing right in big ways through volunteer hours or in small ways through random acts of kindness, each can make a huge difference in the lives you touch. In business, those doing right moments happen when you put others’ needs above your own – whether that’s helping out a teammate whose workload is a little heavier or going the extra mile for a customer.
