In 2008, Allegacy founded the first Student-Run Credit Union (SRCU) in North Carolina. Today, we have eight SRCUs throughout Winston-Salem and Forsyth County. Each location is run by high school students supervised by trained staff, and offers deposit and withdrawal services to students, parents, teachers and faculty.
Everyone benefits. Students can take out lunch money or deposit a paycheck. Teachers can take care of basic transactions. The students who run the location can gain real-world financial experience.
At Allegacy, we feel a generational responsibility to help young people learn to be financially responsible. We know that financial awareness impacts a person at every stage of life and in every population. We believe it’s important to provide this education early in life, so students have the best chance of achieving their goals in the future.
We’re proud to say that since we launched our SRCU initiative, other credit unions have followed suit. Student-run credit unions continue to grow in numbers across North Carolina and nationwide.
