At Allegacy Federal Credit Union, we believe when we are at our best, our members can be too. We know that our employees spend a majority of their time at work and that it’s important they feel connected to each other. Our award-winning AllHealth Wellness program strives to improve the wellbeing of our employees by focusing on five pillars of wellness: Physical, Social, Financial, Emotional and Purpose.
During this month’s pop-up social, designed as an afternoon stress-reliever, we found ways to tap into three of the pillars: Physical, Social and Emotional by setting up games in our Community Room. Employees could come down for a quick afternoon break and play ping-pong, Wii bowling, Jenga, giant badminton and even corn hole. For those who needed a calmer break, we had a coloring table set-up so they could get their Zen on for a few minutes before heading back to work.
They were also treated with smoothies to take back with them in exchange for answering one question – What made you happy today? Responses ranged from a simple ‘getting a smoothie’ to the more profound such as ‘working for a place that values me every day’ and ‘sharing some un-pressure time with my peeps.’ This simple activity promoted mindfulness and gratitude, proven stress-relievers.
According to Alan Kohll of Forbes, “Strong social connections make people happier and physically healthier which can translate into work performance.” Happier people have less stress and those with quality work relationships are more engaged and loyal. This year, Allegacy was recognized by The Triad Business Journal as a Best Place to Work based on feedback received directly from our employees plus the ‘perks’ we offer to help our staff be their best. And with the many positive comments we received about our pop-up afternoon stress-reliever, we know we’re on the right track.
